Redemption Lies Within Akron

The RubberDucks tunnel through to find redemption in this great 2019 promotion.

Great promotion is coming this summer in Akron centered around the 25th Anniversary of the Shawshank Redemption movie release. We love how they touched several aspects of their game with elements, added the jersey, special guest and the VIP package for those super-fans.

Details include:

The “Shawshank Jailbird Special” is set for Saturday, July 20, at Canal Park.

Bob Gunton, who played Warden Samuel Norton, is scheduled to appear.

The sale is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.

Cost is $60. Price includes a ticket to the game vs. the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at 7:05 p.m., an all-you-can-eat picnic and a RubberDucks hat. Fans also will receive a voucher for a Warden Norton bobblehead and access to the exclusive meet-and-greet with Gunton. Those interested can call 330-253-5151. Phone orders only will be accepted.

On July 20, RubberDucks players will wear jerseys that will look like 1940s-style prison uniforms, which fans can win during an in-game silent auction. The game also will include post-game fireworks with a “jailhouse rock” theme. Other themes are in the works.

The iconic 1994 movie has ties to Northeast Ohio, having been shot in Mansfield and other Ohio locations.

In our March 2017 Podcast we talked with Christina Urycki about the RubberDucks promo calendar, its a good window into their approach.
