Full Appreciation in Fort Wayne

The Fort Wayne Komets pay homage to the local Fighter Wing for their Military Appreciation Night.

The Komets are celebrating a Military Appreciation Night built around the local 122 Fighter Wing, known as the Blacksnakes.

The 122nd Fighter Wing is an Air National Guard unit based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is part of the Indiana Air National Guard and operates out of the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Station. The unit is equipped with A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft.

The primary mission of the 122nd Fighter Wing is to provide close air support to ground forces. A-10 Thunderbolt II, commonly known as the “Warthog,” is a specialized ground-attack aircraft designed for close air support of friendly ground troops, engaging armored vehicles, and providing forward air control.

The responsibilities of the 122nd Fighter Wing may include both state and federal missions. State missions could involve responding to emergencies and disasters within Indiana, while federal missions might include deployments in support of the United States military objectives.

The Komets have two specialty jerseys for the weekend. A silent auction for the game-worn jerseys will take place in the arena lobby, with net proceeds donated the the Wounded Warrior Project.
