While a mojority of the players were not born at the time the show aired in the 90’s, syndication has kept the show relevant. The Pistons saw Martin’s embrace of Detroit as an opportunity to link the team with the iconic show.
The Pistons also drew some inspiration from some of the show’s episodes but did not use specific episodes since the team doesn’t not have rights to them. But in drawing inspiration from the show, they were able to create the include jerseys, hats, shorts, sweatshirts, T-shirts and more in the collection.
It also helped in some of the in-game promotion materials like the Shenehneh-style fanny packs that will be given away at Friday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets. (mlive.com)
Always a good test of giveaway perceived value, the Fanny Packs are fetching over $20 on eBay.
Hear our players talk about how much of an impact “Martin” had on their childhood growing up. @RealMartyMar’s hit series was more than just a show but was a cultural phenomenon that uplifted the city of Detroit! pic.twitter.com/YEfJtZuDNA
