Great post. Really interesting data. I agree that the connection back to the players' personalities is key. It seems as though everyone under the sun has their own bobblehead these days. The biggest challenge for sports teams is to find that unique twist on a standard promo that is going to pique the interest of the fans and create the extra "buzz."

My vote for best quote from the entire page:

# "Best: Barry Bonds bobblehead. The 'Head' was made in actual proportion to his body."

[...] I wrote about another series in the Atlantic League called the War of the Roses. It’s an easy connection for fans to build on a natural or geographic rivalry and makes a series of game more meaningful and easier to market and promote. [...]

[...] While I love the blog, it has emerged as a large chunk of my efforts….so I like to make sure I thank him on the milestone posts for adding to my workload. (see post 200) If you like numbers we are approaching another milestone at Gameops.com. Sometime around June 10th we will post the millionth banner ad view. To offset some of the costs of maintaining the website we have an ad banner on the top of each page (going back many years). I religiously track the number of views and was excited to have done a million of anything (but not excited enough to give that it’s own blog post). [...]

How does this make the team money? All they do is give out a bunch of free tickets.

It's a good idea and good promotion but I'm not sure how it will make the team money.

Comment on Pittsburgh Gives Fans the Finger by Cudo

Ah...good point Glen. I think I agree now that I look at it again. This comment appears to be from the author of the Cleveland Leader, rather than the Pirates Spokesperson.

Apologies to the Pirates Spokesperson.

Apparently the naivety rests with the blogger, not the Pirates.

I thought more about this after posting and I think the Pirates would have been wise to offer an exchange program. Accepting these bobbleheads back from any fan, in exchange for a Team Shop voucher or ticket voucher. It would probably not have been activated by many fans, but would have shown the Pirates to be sensitive to offended fans.

Hi Jon.

I read the article / quote a bit different -- I thought that whoever wrote the article was offering his opinion about China, etc.

So I agree, it was an irresponsible comment -- but I think it came from the writer, not from the Pittsburgh spokesperson.

Hard to tell from video, but the fur went from royal blue to the new darker blue of the new logo (custom dyed fur to match pantone #), smaller shoes, and different eyes.
