Unoriginal Pranksters Get Burned By Sharpshooting Coach

This story is getting some play on national media this week:

The prank was set up perfectly. A high school girls’ basketball coach in Kansas was told he’d win tickets to the Final Four if he hit a half-court shot while blindfolded. The crowd was instructed to scream wildly when his attempt inevitably failed (because, really, that shot is nearly impossible) so the coach would think the shot went in. For an instant ,he’d think he was Final-Four-bound and then the joke would be revealed. There was just one problem, though: He made it.  (Yahoo Sports Story)

I suspect it was the Karma Material Police at work, since this prank isn’t exactly original.  It’s a take-off of a CollegeHumor.com prank of the same half-court shot promotion.

There are skeptics on the validity of this high school version….there are some suggesting the blindfold wasn’t real and the coach could see.  Still impressive that he makes the shot…and perhaps one-upping the pranksters will end up scoring him tickets in the end.  A USA Today story notes that there have been some donation offers to give the Coach 4 tickets after all.

Speaking of skeptics, I point out some flaws in the one of the CollegeHumor.com Pranks from a marriage proposal in an earlier blog on Gameops.com.  I actually hate plugging their site, since I think some of their best “pranks” are  fabrications.

It should be noted, however, that it is impressive to be able to fabricate elaborate pranks even if they are cooperative efforts.
