Playing Cards, Pink, and Hockey 101
The Game Ops Crew in Norfolk is busy this weekend with two promotions:
Playing Card Giveaway (Jan 15)
The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive 2009-10 Admirals playing cards, courtesy of John’s Tax Service and Sinclair Communications, parent company of 93.7 BOB-FM, 96-X, US-106, WNIS AM-790, and WTAR 850-AM.
This was well promoted on their website and with Twitter (which is increasingly how we are hearing about more promotions).

The next night they offer their 3rd Annual Pink the Rink:
Pink The Rink (Jan 16)
The Norfolk Admirals and Susan G. Komen for the Cure will hold the third annual “Pink in the Rink” at the Admirals game at Norfolk Scope January 16th. This popular annual event will seek to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer while also raising monies for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The “Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women” will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. Seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
While it might be viewed as a stereotype that women would need a tutorial on hockey, this is a nice combination and softens that potential connection since the night is tied to directly to breast cancer.
I love the Hockey 101 concept, it’s just a great way to increase your fan base and cultivate fans. I hosted an interview with Eric Bonanno (circa 2002) which talked about how the Kentucky Thoroughblades created such an event. You can read the Interview in our archives.
I hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend.
