Scratch Promotions
Gameops.com recently worked with the Port Huron Icehawks to create a Lucky Lotto promotion for their in game promotion. We created scratch off lottery cards, (3.5″ by 2.5″, a little bigger than a credit card) with their sponsor logo and locations. The scratch off reveals a different level prize for fans to redeem at the sponsor location.
This promotion is featured this month in our Premium Spotlight.
But we are just scratching the surface. These simple inexpensive cards also can be used in a clever way with any promotional night. Here’s an example:
Cal Ripken, Jr. Day from the Charlotte Knights
In 1980, a year prior to his Major League debut, Cal Ripken Jr. led the Charlotte Knights to a Southern League championship. Now, 25+ years later, the club is staging “Cal Ripken Jr. Day” in recognition of the spectacular success he went on to achieve with the Baltimore Orioles.Upon entering the stadium, fans will be given a scratch-off card that will determine which Ripken-related prize they will receive. The most coveted item will surely be the Ripken bobblehead, 2,632 of which will be given away (one for every day of Ripken’s consecutive games played streak). Other giveaway items include Ripken hologram cards and magnets, as well as free tickets to an upcoming Knights game. (Promotion Database)
Simple giveaway night in Charlotte with a noteworthy twist: The number of bobbleheads given away. A very clever use and connection to the player as they give away 2,632 of the Ripken bobbleheads.
As a fan you have a great reason to come to the game: The chance at a great bobblehead. Lots of teams give them to “the first 5000″ fans (for example). In this case you are giving away a number less than your expected attendance. Now all fans have an equal chance at the bobblehead and you can give away a less expensive gift to those who don’t win. In fact the scratch cards can be full-color process and have the quality of a collectible card.
Of course this also allows you to have a “Grand Prize”. For example you could have 2000 people win a bobblehead, 500 win a color magnet, and 5 fans win an autographed version of the bobblehead, while the rest win a collectable trading card.
I also like the secondary giveaways of the cards and magnets. Many teams have made the decision to giveaway a full-house of premiums (one for every available ticket), but for many that can be an expensive proposition. The gift of the less expensive items keeps fans from feeling like the totally missed out on a promotion.
Scratch cards can split up winners in any quantity you want. Contact a TEAMmate Sales Rep for more details.
