Ice Girls Draft a success
BOSTON - The Boston Bruins held their first ever Ice Girls Draft at Ristuccia Arena on Wednesday evening. Over 90 girls from all over the area came to the tryout for a chance to make the team. Only 20 will be kept.

The Ice Girls concept is spreading, I don’t have numbers on how many teams are doing this but its an idea that has been growing over the last couple years.
We talked about it in the March 2002 Interview with the New York Islanders Brad Preston. The Islanders had added the Pepsi Ice Girls as a clever solution to a new league mandate. The Girls also created sponsor inventory and enhances the entertainment value of the game.

I beleive this is a true bad image for the sport, the history, and the “brand” the NHL is presenting to fans. Obviosuly the NFL and NBA have utilized this and worked, that is fine. But personally I don’t beleive this works in the “blue collar” nature of hockey. I agree that is added value to the possibility of sponsorships, but selling sex is something that I dont beleive should have a place in this game.
Sorry folks, and that includes the atlanta thrashers on this report in additon to the teams listed in the previous article.

The “islanders ice girls” don’t do anything to enchance the game of hockey, and these girls don’t skate well enough to enjoy their efforts of picking up the ice with shovels.
I don’t think the management of the the “islanders” realize how insulting these “girls” are to the women hockey fans.
Get rid of them.
