Best Contest or On-Field Promotion
What promotion or contest is the most entertaining. For example, a “Chuck-a-Puck” contest. This is a repeatable on-field promotion that is held in-game. Consider entertainment value, sponsorship possibilities, cost, and repeatability.
- The Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL have started conducting in-game interviews at their home games to give fans insight into games as they are being played. During select stoppages of play, the team’s head coach and various players will be asked questions/provide commentary on the game and the interviews will be broadcast throughout the arena in real time.
- This holiday season, the Boston Bruins offered their fans the chance to have a family holiday photo taken at the team’s arena for use on a greeting card. Fans had the choice of two photo settings on the ice: in front of a decorated Boston Bruins’ goal, or at center ice.
- The Joliet JackHammers “Season Ticket Holder of the Game.”
- Chicago Bulls Inflatable Race

The Orlando Magic have maintained a very entertaining bit for the last two seasons that is called “STUFF’s Intern Olympics,” where their mascot pits actual office interns against one another in wacky contests in hopes of getting a full-time job at the end of the season. It has been seen on “ESPN’s Top Ten Plays Of the Week” and numerous other media outlets.
Some of the bizarre and funny competitions have included a gravy-chugging contest during Thanksgiving, a cheerleading contest (in costume), blindfold baby races, worm contests, a Slurpee-guzzling contest, and several others. A definite hilarious entertainment champion!
