September 2006

I continue to be a bit enthralled with YouTube.  It’s easier than ever to share ideas about our industry through a simple and free service.

This month we have our Six From Six game review from Pittsburgh, including some video from the game.

This is really going to chance how we share ideas and skits, and I look forward to watching it evolve.  We are trying to lead the way with our new Gameops.comTube page, that highlights Game Ops related video content.

If you post anything or see things on YouTube, please send them our way and we will add them to our shared favorites folder.

In a someone puzzling move the NFL as a league has banned the playing of Gary Glitter music, including Rock and Roll Part 2.

The NFL has effectively banned stadiums from playing Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll Part 2″ after the Brit rocker was convicted of molesting underage girls in Vietnam, prompting a search for a substitute celebratory anthem. The Denver Broncos switched to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s “Go Daddy-o”; Kansas City Chiefs fans voted for P.O.D.’s “Boom.”  (MSNBC)

I have always been a little confused how controling the NFL league office can be.  If you have ever been in an NFL lockeroom there is a large poster of a player showing exactly how the uniform must be and limits on minutia like how high ankles can be taped and what garments have to be tucked into where.

The fact that the league has the time to issue mandates about music playlists is even more extreme.

nfl.gifWe have discussed this in the past on the Gameops.com Message Boards (note: our boards are still not functioning properly, but you can still read it) and most think the banning is kinda silly.  The follow-up question becomes where do you draw the line (and this is where Micheal Jackson’s name pops-up first)

If individual teams are getting hundreds of complaints about a song or artist, I would think they are wise enough to make a decision…however a league mandate seems a little overboard.

What’s next for the No Fun League….no dancing after touchdowns.
